AK Counselling

HPCSA Registered Counsellor (PRC 0045497)

Hi, I’m Adrienne Kotze. Most people call me Adi. I’m an HPCSA Registered Counsellor. I run my private practice from our home in the peaceful Stonehurst Mountain Estate, where I live with my husband, our two wild and wonderful children, and our two equally lovable dogs.

I’m deeply passionate about people - About how we think, feel, connect, and heal. I’ve always believed that we aren’t meant to go through life alone. We all need a village, a sense of belonging, a space where we feel seen, safe, and supported. That’s what I try to offer in my life and work: a space where people feel they belong and matter.

When I’m not in session, you’ll probably find me covered in clay at my ceramics wheel, exploring the forest with my kids, lifting weights, riding up a mountain, or cooking something comforting for the people I love.

My Approach

My work is grounded in a person-centered approach, which means that the therapeutic relationship is built on empathy, authenticity, and respect for your unique lived experience. I draw from a range of evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including solution-focused brief therapy, experiential and cognitive-behavioural therapy, to support clients in identifying strengths, gaining insight, and working toward meaningful change. Underpinning most of my work are family systems theory and attachment theories, which help me understand the broader relational and developmental contexts that shape how we think, feel, and relate, both to ourselves and to others.

I have a particular interest in working with adolescents and youth, who I connect well with. From shifts within family systems, such as divorce, loss, relocation, illness, developmental stressors, to any kind of relational or structural transition, I strongly believe that working from the above mentioned approach can lead to deeper, more sustainable healing and growth.

In therapy, we can address a range of concerns, from situational distress (like burnout, overwhelm, relationship tension, or life transitions, to longer-term challenges related to emotional health, identity, or communication. My focus is on enhancing personal functioning and psychosocial wellbeing, rather than clinical diagnosis.

As a Registered Counsellor, I can screen and refer for more complex or severe mental health challenges, and I value working as part of an interdisciplinary team when a more collaborative approach is needed.

Whether you’re reaching out for yourself, your child, or your family, my aim is to walk alongside you with warmth, curiosity, and care, helping you make sense of what’s happening, and finding ways to move forward.

You’re welcome here, just as you are
